Room 112 Firsties have been exploring measuring this week. We read the story, How Big Is A Foot? by Rolf Myller. This is a story about a King who wanted to build the Queen a bed for her birthday because they have yet to be invented. They tiny apprentice made the bed to the King's specifications (3 feet by 6 feet), but it was too small because the Apprentice's foot was not as large as the King's foot!
Room 112 Mathematicians measured different objects around the room using feet, digits, hand spans, cubits, and arm spans! We found out that this was not a good measuring system because everyone is unique and not all the same size!
