We started our expository writing unit this week. The firsties were excited to start working on their All About Animals books. The students picked an animal to research and read books to start collecting facts. They collected facts on animal features, habitats, families, and food. We then used our facts to start writing our books. We will continue to work on adding a table of contents, map and glossary this week. The firsts will then share their books with our kindergarten friends to teach them about different animals. Look for more pictures to come!

We've had a lot of fun over the last few weeks learning about the Osmo! It's a new tech tool that let's us practice reading and math skills with the iPad and hands on manipulatives. We can't wait to use it more! Thank you to Mrs. Corley who came to help us play around.
Room 112 Mathematicians were officially introduced to the quarter! Ask your Firstie about the "Quarter Cheer" to help us remember how to count by 25s...
The first graders received a letter from the President of the United States asking for help! He and his men misplaced all of the facts for the American Symbols! We were given a TOP SECRET mission from him to help find out the facts. Look at all of the hard work that went into researching these facts! During reading we learned to use clues in the text and pictures to help us understand unknown words. The author often leaves us clues in the sentence before or just after the tricky word. We put on our detective hats and found the meaning to some new words. Then we recorded our thinking in our reading notebooks. Check it out!
