The first graders had their first visit to the LMC! We learned about library procedures and taking care of our books. We learned about checking out books and caring for books. Then we did a library scavenger hunt with a partner. We had a great time doing this and exhibited lots of caring and kind behaviors towards our partners.

We began our introduction to math workshop today by discussing the question, "What is a mathematician?" The students help to brainstorm and make a list of things that a mathematician may do. We then began learning about the rotations that happen during workshop. Our focus was on making good choices with materials, cleaning up (leaving each station as we found it) and rotating to the next center quickly and quietly. The firsties LOVED getting their hands on these math tools!
Today we learned all about our Rise N Shine Binders! These binders help us with our transition to school each morning. After the firsties complete their morning responsibilities (lunch choice, folder check, backpack hung up), they head to their seats to work in their binders. There are several choices in the binder that students can choose from each morning. You will get a chance to peak at these binders on curriculum night!
We learned how to play at morning recess and how to line up when we hear the bell ring! We learned all of our new friends names while playing "Hickety Pickety Bumblebee" and completing a Rainbow Fish activity! WE ROCKED OUR FIRST DAY!!I am looking forward to a great year in first grade! We will spend our first few weeks learning lots about classroom procedures and expectations. This is your child's classroom as much as it is my own. We will work together to create a list of expectations that will help us to do our best learning! Please be patient with your child during these first few weeks. It is difficult adjusting to the longer day and each day will get a little easier. This typically means that your child may come home to you more exhausted than usual. It is the "September" adjustment that we all go through….me included!
I do my best to check email in the morning, at lunch and at the end of the day. If you have an urgent message please be sure to call the school office to make sure that it reaches me. There is not a lot of down time for the teacher in first grade! I will go home feeling just like the children! :) Let's work together to make your child's adjustment to first grade a seamless one! |
