We finished publishing our nonfiction books this past week! The second graders worked so hard on gathering facts, writing paragraphs and editing with a partner to complete a final draft! After each chapter we met with our partner to receive feedback and edit. We then worked on the final draft and printed or drew pictures to go with our facts from that chapter. All of our books included important text features such as a table of contents and a glossary with key words. Some books included diagrams or maps as well. We worked very hard on our books and they will be displayed at conferences for your reading enjoyment!
After learning all about landforms and bodies of water, we studied several different models including globes and maps. The students then showed their understanding of models, maps, landforms and bodies of water by creating their own maps. They had to pretend that they had discovered a new land. Their map needed to include: a title, four landforms, three bodies of water, symbols and a legend. The kids have worked very hard on their maps and they can't wait to show them off. We had some creative new lands!
We worked with a partner in Mrs. McLoone's class to create a model of a landform and body of water. We made a plan, gathered materials and worked together to create our models. We then took pictures of our models and explained them using the Seesaw app. If you haven't had a chance yet, check it out on your child's Seesaw account.
