One of the strategies that we practiced during reading workshop this week was visualizing. We learned that "making movies in our minds" helps us to listen closely to the text and to process what we are reading. We practiced making movies in our mind while reading the poem "Termite Tune." The students stopped at different points during the poem to draw what they saw in their minds. They quickly realized that their visualizations changed as they kept reading. We also talked about how each child's visualizations are different because we all have different background knowledge and experiences.
