As part of our non-fiction unit, the firsties are learning about different text structures used in non-fiction texts. One of the structures that we learned about was compare and contrast. We read a non-fiction text about living and non-living things and then worked as a large group to complete a Venn Diagram comparing the two. The following day, the firsties worked with a partner to read a non-fiction piece on frogs and toads. They then worked together to compare them using a Venn Diagram. We also spent time reading articles on summer and winter following the same pattern. The students did a fantastic job working together and completing their diagrams. We glued these in our reading notebooks for future reference.
